PS3 Console is Large

Has anyone notice that the PS3 console isn't any smaller. In fact, the console has gotten bigger. My first inclination as a designer would be to make the console smaller; every other electronic design is following suit. Did Sony want to stand out of the crowd with a bigger design? It makes a statement of bold and out-of-control. It makes a statement that the PS3 is not to be reckoned with. However, with all the technology inside it could be the smallest size possible. You really don't want heat from the surrounding boards slowing the graphics down. So maybe the console was created with plenty of air space.
